Product Policy

We want you to feel good about where your food comes from. That’s why we have a product policy in place, to ensure that we are only purchasing products that align with our core values from suppliers that we trust.

Our Core Values

Political and Economic

Often our decisions to carry products are also decisions to support those who produce them, ensuring their continued presence in our communities. We support local, regional, and Canadian producers. We are committed to pricing our items reasonably and in accordance with the amount we paid for them. We support businesses with cooperative and non-capitalist structures.

Environmental

We support the principles of organic agriculture. We only carry environmentally and personally safe ingredients for personal hygiene, cleaning, and pest control products, and oppose the use of dangerous* chemicals for these purposes. We oppose wasteful packaging, and we avoid it wherever possible. We oppose the transportation of products from distant sources when there is a local alternative available.

*reasonably harmful to the body or the environment when used in the manner intended by the manufacturer.

Ethical

We make decisions to support relationships between consumers and the land, and the human and animal inhabitants of our shared planet. We support and partner with organizations with an explicit positive social and environmental commitment. We support initiatives like Fair Trade Certification which ensures that workers and producers are paid fairly for their labour and production. We condemn the testing of food and cosmetic products on animals. We condemn and boycott companies who are known to impose unsafe conditions on their workers.

Health and Nutrition

We supply a wide range of minimally processed, whole foods, avoid artificial chemical ingredients and preservatives, and support the clear labeling of ingredients on packaged products. We value and promote simple ingredients.
