Spring into Action with Earth’s!

We’ve made it to springtime, folks, and that’s enough reason for celebration. A recurring theme in this newsletter is ways to “spring into action”. Well… thoughtfully consider ways that we can do small actions to make the world a slightly better place? Actions like signing petitions for a cleaner environment, fighting the rise of fascism, reducing waste by rehoming and repairing items, advocating for public transit, and eating a more sustainable diet, to list a few.

March Recap

We’ve had some amazing events at the co-op this March so far, including a zine workshop, some documentary nights, our Upcycled Market, an equinox-themed embossing workshop, and a small item swap. Thanks to everyone who showed up and came out to any of our events!

I would also like to thank two co-op members who made a very generous contribution to help us out and help spread the word about who we are and what we do. Thank you, anonymous members!!!!!

We will be maintaining our current operating hours, as they seem to be working well for us at this time. One minor change is that we will be open later on Thursdays for our weekly game nights, launching this week! Catch us until 7pm on Thursdays!

'2040' is an innovative feature documentary that looks to the future, but is vitally important now. Award-winning director Damon Gameau embarks on journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary footage with dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board for his daughter and the planet.

Have you heard of the Doughnut Economy ? It's an alternative economic model that is being implemented in cities around the world to ensure we are providing the social foundations necessary for all people to thrive in an equitable manner while respecting the limits of the natural world.

On Wednesday, April 8th you are invited to join a growing coalition of concerned citizens that are exploring the potential for the Doughnut Economy model to be implemented in Edmonton. It's an opportunity to learn more about how the Doughnut Economy works, network with other like-minded folks and brainstorm pathways forward to make this a reality in Edmonton.

New Products!

We got lots of new Jack59 in the shop, including shampoo and conditioner bars, hair brushes, bath bombs, shower steamers, and a skin salve. It’s so great to be able to support a locally + indigenous-owned, women-led, certified B Corp and cruelty free company right here in our city.

We also brought in some plant-based Easter chocolate bunnies and eggs that are so adorable!

New drinks!

To welcome spring, we’ve added some new drinks to our feature menu: Mango Berry Fizz, Lavender Fog, and Sweet Dreams Latte. Try them while they’re here!

Call for Photographers

If any readers/coop members have some level of skill in photography or would like to get some practice and are interested in helping us with some nice photos to populate our social media and website, we would be very appreciative! You can reply to this email or reach out to us if you’re interested.

Water Not Coal Petition

If you haven’t signed yet, you still have time! Canvassers are here on Saturdays from 1-3 and Sundays from 2-4. Also, rumour has it that Corb himself will likely be making a quick stop at our co-op on Friday, April 3 around 4pm-ish.

Tree Machine

We’ve been given the honour of homing Shrubscriber’s Tree Machine, a repurposed candy machine stocked with seeds, stickers, and propagation instructions. Drop in a toonie and see which seeds you get! All seeds are sourced from trees growing right here in Edmonton. Big thanks to McCauley resident and ERC member, Dustin Bajer!
